Dee's Ciao For Now Post

Greetings!

This is my eighth month with the Cultivation Center team, and with Cultivation Center being my first stop in the post-grad realm, there is a LOT that I have learned. Eight months is an ample amount of time to encompass what Cultivation Center is, and the transition from graduating as a Buff to the real world has been one of the greatest learning experiences.

When Amy welcomed me into Cultivation Center as the Digital Communication Associate, I knew I would learn a lot about the consulting world and components surrounding this practice. I have been exposed to CC’s passion of cultivating community-minded business, shown the value of collaborations and partnerships, sat through visionary plannings, listened in on board retreats, been to a B Corp conference (awesome!), and gained essential pieces of knowledge from the masterminds of Amy Rosenblum and Blair Young. These women are low key about how great they are, but I am wearing my PR Hat today and they are getting a virtual salute from me. Surrounded by women of outstanding merit is a blessing, I tell you. Little do they know, have empowered me to be the human that I am today. Beyond the pillars of a consulting business that is Cultivation Center, perhaps the most vital takeaway from these eight months is to be a champion. 

What? I got you. Like I mentioned above, Cultivation Center is passionate about cultivating community-minded businesses. How I see it, we empower organizations to do what they do and facilitate good ideas into a plan. We work with people who care about doing good work and make them champions of it, and in turn, impact the community. And with that, Amy and Blair have supported me to be my own champion. Separate from the work aspect, they care about what I do outside of work, and recently, I’ve disclosed to Amy my dream to backpack Europe and travel again. It was something I have been planning for a long time, but was apprehensive about, and the time was now. Not only did she encourage me to follow through with it, but the CC Team is excited for me! Having this kind of support was the catalyst to go after something I have wanted.  Amy and Blair are champions and fans of people, and not just work, which comes full circle in the shout out to wonderful humans they are.

I’m really proud and happy to be working at a place that supports that. Cultivation Center not only does good for the community, but this place has granted me the opportunity to embark on one of my dreams and so, here I go. As you read this, I’ll either be dabbling in Dublin culture, frolicking of foodie-nerd-syndrome in Borough Market, or bartering in the leather markets of Florence. I will be in 14 cities across Europe and fulfilling a dream of mine. To join in on my adventures, I’ll be on Instagram, andTwitter! See you back at The Hub in six weeks, and in the meantime, I challenge you to be your own champion and be a champion of someone in your life. It could make their dreams come true.

Repurposing Content & Re-Paying It Forward

The recent incline in temperature ubiquitously makes everything a little warmer and brighter, and in turn, prompted us to do something about it. What better way to extend some sun rays than by paying it forward? Again. The Cultivation Center team has decided to re-release our winter 2014 Pay-It-Forward Initiative, featuring nominations of small businesses and nonprofit organizations doing impactful work. In doing so, we want to give ode to the idea of repurposing/reusing content as a great tool in both business and personal matters.

Parents — how often is that you give in to something your kid asks permission for, despite your initial decline? The persistent please, please, please?! could be what steered you to a fine, yes!…sound familiar? Being primed again and again of certain stimuli and ideas makes it more attractive, or subject for acceptance. I know I can recite Shane Co.’s tagline and 15-second script because of the occurrence with which I hear it on the radio during my evening commute. I bet you can recall more commercial jingles and slogans than you think! Familiar with Toyota’s tagline? How about humming Kit-Kat’s catchy tune? Gimme a break, right? That’s simply the mere-exposure effect doing it’s trick…cue the success and drive of the advertising industry! With content your business puts out, feel free to use that content again; chances are, a new set of eyes will see it, and your reach will continue to grow. Reusing your material can be purposeful and make you more attractive. Winning!

In addition to repetition, the repurposing of content can be vital. For me, repurposing is intriguing in the sense that something new and useful is produced from existing content, knowledge and opinions. I love watching Chopped (Food Network aficionado alert) where the competition comes down to repurposing ingredients with innovation and creativity at the biggest magnitude. Through expertise and unique perspective, a jicama, cow tongue, simple syrup, and canned refried beans can be whipped into a gourmet delicacy. This is also the root of why I am absolutely enamored and passionate with the digital media industry: the capacity to create is massive, and as a content creator, that gives into ample space to take ideas to the next level, fusing diverging sectors and adding personal flair. With the right creative juices flowing, the next big idea can take hold and ultimately, impact the world. Via repurposing, different demographics may be intrigued as well and voila, you have a whole new population that has your back. Repurposing content enables distinctive perspectives to shine through and presents a captivating way of looking at something.

So without further ado, Cultivation Center now re-releases the Pay-It-Forward Initiative blogs, all written by guests who nominated the featured organizations. From ice cream that mends the hunger gap, to a nonprofit summer camp supporting families affected by childhood cancer, we are delighted to spread the love again. Be on the lookout now and throughout the summer, as we will post them on ourFacebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Pay it forward with us by sharing the posts or supporting the nominated organizations!

In this world of super-sized portions, it is such a treat to take my grandchildren to Eats & Sweets in downtown Lafayette Colorado where a “bambino” cone is available for ice cream lovers of all ages – and the price is right too.  Not only is the serving just enough (two inch cone topped by a single, small scoop) but the ice cream is all natural from local supplier Boulder Ice Cream.   This is true for most everything else offered on the menu – create your own sandwich from a variety of healthy breads plus choose your filling, your spreads, and your greens – thus get what YOU want. From the desserts to the sandwiches to the soups ‘n salads, everything at Eats & Sweets is fresh and sourced locally whenever possible.
